Microsoft is as creative in naming its updates as Sony is in calling its headphones (“WH1000-XM5”). Windows updates are usually named with cryptic combinations of numbers and letters – such as 22H2. That is likely to change now, The Verge reports.
The upcoming major operating system update is expected to be called the “Windows 11 2022 Update.” The name was found by a Twitter user in the software maker’s Get the Started app:
It still sounds a bit bureaucratic, but it at least lets users know if their computers are up-to-date.
The update is supposed to be rolled out on September 20. Among other things, it will include app folders in the Start menu.
According to a recent report, Microsoft could say goodbye to extensive annual updates in the coming year. Instead, new features will be rolled out during the year.
